Fugitive Dust Control
What
is fugitive dust?
Fugitive dust is that which is not from a point source, such
as a stack or vent pipe. Fugitive dust is typically a result
of construction site work, or material handling where outdoor
storage piles are used.
Best Available Control Methods
Air Pollution Regulations require that dust control measures
be used to control dust from any activity which may cause
fugitive dust emissions. Depending on the jurisdiction, these
recommended practices are also be referred to as "Best
Practical Methods".
Storm Water Control Required When 1 Acre Or More Is Disturbed
Whenever site work involves 1 acre or greater, a storm water
permit is also required. Details on how to obtain this permit
and storm water control measures can be found at NDEP
and information on control measures can be found at the official
EPA
site.
